The Pirate Bay’s SOPA/PIPA Press Release

PRESS RELEASE, FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.

Over a century ago Thomas Edison got the patent for a device which would “do for the eye what the phonograph does for
the ear”. He called it the Kinetoscope. He was not only amongst the first to record video, he was also the first person
to own the copyright to a motion picture.

Because of Edisons patents for the motion pictures it was close to financially impossible to create motion pictures
in the North american east coast. The movie studios therefor relocated to California, and founded what we today call
Hollywood. The reason was mostly because there was no patent.
There was also no copyright to speak of, so the studios could copy old stories and make movies out of them – like
Fantasia, one of Disneys biggest hits ever.

So, the whole basis of this industry, that today is screaming about losing control over immaterial rights, is that they
circumvented immaterial rights. They copied (or put in their terminology: “stole”) other peoples creative works,
without paying for it. They did it in order to make a huge profit. Today, they’re all successful and most of the
studios are on the Fortune 500 list of the richest companies in the world. Congratulations – it’s all based on being
able to re-use other peoples creative works. And today they hold the rights to what other people create.
If you want to get something released, you have to abide to their rules. The ones they created after circumventing
other peoples rules.

The reason they are always complainting about “pirates” today is simple. We’ve done what they did. We circumvented the
rules they created and created our own. We crushed their monopoly by giving people something more efficient. We allow
people to have direct communication between eachother, circumventing the profitable middle man, that in some cases take
over 107% of the profits (yes, you pay to work for them).
It’s all based on the fact that we’re competition.
We’ve proven that their existance in their current form is no longer needed. We’re just better than they are.

And the funny part is that our rules are very similar to the founding ideas of the USA. We fight for freedom of speech.
We see all people as equal. We believe that the public, not the elite, should rule the nation. We believe that laws
should be created to serve the public, not the rich corporations.

The Pirate Bay is truly an international community. The team is spread all over the globe – but we’ve stayed out of the
USA. We have Swedish roots and a swedish friend said this:
The word SOPA means “trash” in Swedish. The word PIPA means “a pipe” in Swedish. This is of course not a coincidence.
They want to make the internet inte a one way pipe, with them at the top, shoving trash through the pipe down to the
rest of us obedient consumers.
The public opinion on this matter is clear. Ask anyone on the street and you’ll learn that noone wants to be fed with
trash. Why the US government want the american people to be fed with trash is beyond our imagination but we hope that
you will stop them, before we all drown.

SOPA can’t do anything to stop TPB. Worst case we’ll change top level domain from our current .org to one of the
hundreds of other names that we already also use. In countries where TPB is blocked, China and Saudi Arabia springs to
mind, they block hundreds of our domain names. And did it work? Not really.
To fix the “problem of piracy” one should go to the source of the problem. The entertainment industry say they’re
creating “culture” but what they really do is stuff like selling overpriced plushy dolls and making 11 year old girls
become anorexic. Either from working in the factories that creates the dolls for basically no salary or by watching
movies and tv shows that make them think that they’re fat.

In the great Sid Meiers computer game Civilization you can build Wonders of the world. One of the most powerful ones
is Hollywood. With that you control all culture and media in the world. Rupert Murdoch was happy with MySpace and had
no problems with their own piracy until it failed. Now he’s complainting that Google is the biggest source of piracy
in the world – because he’s jealous. He wants to retain his mind control over people and clearly you’d get a more
honest view of things on Wikipedia and Google than on Fox News.

Some facts (years, dates) are probably wrong in this press release. The reason is that we can’t access this information
when Wikipedia is blacked out. Because of pressure from our failing competitors. We’re sorry for that.

Propuesta Ciudadana

Me da gusto publicar una buena propuesta que me llegó por forward. La mayoría de las medidas se me hacen muy buenas. Léelo y apóyala si te parece buena!

Propuesta

Se esta promoviendo en la ciudadanía una mayor participación nuestra para hacer ver a nuestros gobernantes nuestra desaprobación a su actuación.

Debemos imponer a ellos nuestra voluntad a cambio de nuestro voto en las próximas elecciones.

Deben saber ellos lo que queremos.

Si queremos que cambie nuestro país debemos hablar alto.

El presente documento tiene que dar la vuelta para que lo conozcan nuestros gobernantes y sepan que nos estamos organizando para exigirles lo que queremos para México y para nosotros.

PRIMERO

Queremos que disminuya la cantidad de diputados federales de 500 a 300

Que reduzcan sus salarios y privilegios.

Toma en consideración lo que nos cuestan en salarios, gastos de representación, comisiones especiales, celulares, seguridad, viajes, bonos, etc.

SEGUNDO

Queremos que disminuya la cantidad de senadores de 128 a 32, que uno represente a cada estado de la republica.

TERCERO

Que se cancelen los seguros médicos privados de los legisladores y de funcionarios públicos. Si el pueblo acude al IMSS o ISSTE, que ellos también acudan a esas instituciones. Ya verás que pronto mejoran los servicios.

¿Porque tiene que salir de nuestro dinero sus seguros privados?

Si así lo quieren que lo paguen de los altísimos salarios y otras percepciones que reciben.

CUARTO

Que se recorte el presupuesto que reciben los partidos políticos a la mitad.

O que solo existan tres partidos, y que los demás se integren a cualquiera de ellos, como lo hacen con sus alianzas.

Es humillante para los pobres ver el dinero que se despilfarra cuando solo extienden la mano, y no les cuesta, y si les sobra se lo reparten como botín.

QUINTO

Queremos que desaparezcan todos los legisladores plurinominales.

No es posible que además del excesivo cuerpo legislativo, nos cuesten también los que no los elige el pueblo, para que los políticos pongan a su antojo sus sucesores de ideología o parientes.

SEXTO

El gobierno lo debe imponer el pueblo, no el mismo gobierno.

Queremos tener candidatos ciudadanos independientes, que no dependan de partidos políticos, para evitar que se arrodillen ante el mandato de su partido.

Que sepan que el pueblo manda.

SEPTIMO

Queremos que se aplique el plebiscito.

Su definición dice textualmente:

Es la consulta en la que se somete una propuesta a votación para que los ciudadanos se manifiesten en contra o a favor.

Esa es la aplicación de nuestra voluntad.

OCTAVO

Queremos que se aplique el referéndum de la sociedad.

Su definición se explica así:

Es una institución democrática a través de la cual la sociedad expresa su voluntad respecto a un asunto o decisión que sus representantes constitucionales someten a su consulta.

Debemos ser tomados en cuenta.

NOVENO

Queremos que los gobernantes no tengan fuero.

A la fecha han deformado la definición original, y la aplican como privilegios para actuar sin ser tocados, promoviendo la impunidad en el país, y da como resultado la falta de rendición de cuentas de nuestros gobernantes.

No importa lo que hagan, no se les puede tocar.

Queremos que se quite la pensión vitalicia que se les da a los Presidentes y a cualquier otro funcionario que lo reciba.

Ya bastante agarraron cuando estuvieron en el poder y se les pago todo, por tal motivo nunca gastaron un peso de su bolsa como para seguirles pagando mas todavía.

DECIMO

NO HACE FALTA SER UN GENIO EN ECONOMIA

PARA SABER DONDE ESTA LA FUGA DE CAPITAL

Y TE ASEGURO QUE CON ESTAS MEDIDAS YA NO PAGAREMOS, TANTOS IMPUESTOS Y NO HABRA NECESIDAD DE AUMENTAR OTRO 2%, COMO EL QUE EL PRESIDENTE ESTA PROPONIENDO.

EN LA DEMOCRACIA MANDAMOS LOS CIUDADANOS

Solo es cuestión de usar nuestras facultades:

La libertad de expresión

La libertad de asociación

El sufragio efectivo

De manera inteligente.

Ya es tiempo de imponer nuestro mandato a la clase política. Ya estamos hartos de tanto abuso. Todo tiene un limite.

Ah, yes, it’s been more than a year without downtime and that is because we host ourselves in CloudSigma.

I remember the first days, right after Rackspace and all. Richard Couture was very uncertain about “The Cloud”. He disliked Rackspace and kept saying: “I want a server I can touch!”. Well, after a year, I’d like you to hear him saying: “CloudSigma rules!”. He doesn’t miss a thing about real servers.

The service has been great and flexible as we need it. We even host a Mageia mirror thanks to CloudSigma.

This year, we started building our wiki and the PHPCabal, PythonCabal and ArduinoCabal communities.

Our website provides all kinds of info about our activities

Guadalajara owns them a lot. Our FOSS community is possible, in great part, thanks to them.

Thank you, CloudSigma, for the past year. We’re grateful. We, also, congratulate you for your grant U.S.A. opening. May you conquer the world and keep offering great KVM/Qemu virtualization options to the world.

Oh yeah! I really like making this announcement.

introbella is on it! We’re making new songs and we’re gonna be releasing everything in english from now on! World, get ready for some really cool music!

Our newest project is to compose a few EPs. 4-6 songs per album and let you have them via our website and jamendo’s corner.

Our newest draft is here. Check it out if you like. Send contributions if feeling like it.

What? Don’t know how to contribute? How about:

Un servidor de instalación es muy útil. Nos ayuda a instalar sin necesidad de discos y madres de esas. Además, es mucho más rápido y podemos pre-configurar, por medio de un kickstart, la instalación.

Raphaël: Framework para SVG en JavaScript

No me gusta el javascript… es una porquería…

Dicho ésto, me encontré un magnífico framework para manipular SVG de manera sencilla.

Me gusta mucho la idea de que funciona en varios navegadores como: Firefox 3.0+, Safari 3.0+, Chrome 5.0+, Opera 9.5+ e Internet Explorer 6.0+.

Además, los demos están geniales! Ya hasta me dieron ganas de usarlo.

Otra cosa increible: no necesitas ningún tipo de plugin. Además, pudiéramos hacer cosas como mapas interactivos, y cosas de esas con ésta cosa.

Se me ocurre que pudiéramos vectorizar (con Inkscape) el mapa de México a gran detalle, no crees?

Lo bonito de usar vectores es que no se pixelea ni madres. Además, pudiéra generar una GUI excelente para mi sitio… si encuentro la creatividad.

Haz tu vida fácil en Fedora!

Yo he estado haciendo un script para ahorrarle problemas a la gente. Mi script instala flash y se encarga de codecs, 3D y demás ondas.

Bueno, ahora vi que hay una persona que está haciendo lo mismo: twekear tu Fedora; y está mucho mejor hecho que el mío en cuestión de diseño e interface!

Me sigue gustando mucho el mío por mi preselección de paquetes y demás. Dicho ésto, EasyLife te permite hacer más cosas (que nunca me interesaron) como instalar Java y habilitar sudo (what?! Fedora se transforma en Ubuntu?!)

Eso es lo que le criticaría. Es todo… por lo demás, úsenlo! Está bien chido! Además, lo hace un Brazileño!… espero mucho software como éste desde allá.
